 Graphite Pro was created initially to provide a new approach to the implementation and usage of skins within the Subdreamer CMS Product. One of the most unique features would be that Graphite Pro only ever needs to be installed once, and in many cases the forum only skinned once. The reason for which is that "GP" uses a standardised set of core files, which external stylesheets modify to an almost inifinite level of stylisation. The ultimate goal of Graphite Pro is to offer a skinning solution which can handle an unlimited amount of "Themes", styles, and variations controlled through a multi-faceted plugin; Allowing even the most graphically and html challenged an oppurtunity to achieve exactly what they had hoped for.
GP has continually been maintained and released using Release Candidates ( RC's ) version numbers, for obvious reasons there were many issues beset on the project. Slowly but surely these limitations, and the solutions to overcome them have come to light - Making a "Graphite Pro Control Panel" a reality. In the meantime - we have strived to ensure that our skins using the "GP" model have been that of an elite level of quality. Proving that control of a tabular site layout can be controlled by means of css, meaning most things only dreamed of can be achieved with Graphite Skins. Here's a list of the features which all "GP" Models contain:
- The choice of the center column's minimum width.
- Liquid or static width depending on the css chosen; Selectable for both the Site and Forumskin.
- Choice of two styles of plugins for the side columns, both left and right.
- Css selectable element control on a per-plugin column basis. Control colours, form elements and text with well placed css.
- A seperate stylesheet for all major elements ( Header, Site-specific Effects, Categories, and Sitewide ).
During "Graphite Pro" development, design choice restrictions and universal table limitations led to a few seperate versions. There are currently three versions of Graphite Pro, here is a breakdown of the differences and benefits which each offer:
- Alpha Series
The Alpha Series was the original model invisioned ( which was rather simple in hindsight ); A *Subdreamer skin which only required one installation file. Using varied stylesheets to offer variations of the same product - universally compatible with one another. As in the original version, the Alpha series supports an unlimited amount of headers - a definite strength when choosing a skin when realistically tastes can vary amongst users.
As the amount of headers available for the Alpha model grows, so do our expectations for the inevitable upgrade to a php driven system.
"Alpha Series" offers many choices, a wide assortment of skins offered - the only downside being that "headers" are consistently rectangular, and could never offer a varied shape. - Epsilon Series
The "Epsilon Series" is the obvious choice for businesses, offering the same options that can be expected from the "Alpha Series" Including interchangable headers. The primary variation in approach to the "Epsilon" model is filesize. Businesses prefer less images, a faster load-time and an eyecatching design. By utilising less image-intensive design elements; and using css to its peak via borders and background colours - "Epsilon" just may be the choice for you.
"Epsilon Series" offers interchangable headers, and a much smaller filesize than commonly found in the "Alpha Series". - Gamma series
While Skin development increased, so too did the variation in our designs - By no means had we fully utilised the "Alpha" model to monotany; However design elements such as heavily rounded edges, varying category positions, and unique content types left us with a choice. Hence the "Gamma - unique" series was created. Using slightly altered versions of the Graphite Pro "Alpha Series" core code, Gamma designs are radically different in style. The downside to "Gamma" is the inability to use "Alpha" model headers, but in most cases - "Gamma" series "Graphite Pro" models offer multiple "modifications" with which the header, and overall style can be altered.
"Gamma Series" are unique - using much of the same code, yet with small alterations. "Alpha Series" headers are not compatible with "Gamma Series" models. -
